98 Gestetner F104/F104L
GESTETNER F104 SERIES FAQ’S
Q1. How do the paper capacities of the Gestetner F104 and F104L differ?
A1. The F104 comes standard with one
250-sheet letter-size Main Cassette and a 500-sheet let-
ter/legal Paper Feed Unit (PFU); 750 sheets total. The F104L comes standard with one
250-
sheet letter-size Main Cassette and a 100-sheet Bypass Tray; 350 sheets total. One 500-
sheet letter/legal PFU and 100-sheet Bypass Tray can be added to the F104. Two 500-sheet
letter/legal PFUs can be added to the F104L. Each unit can hold a maximum of 1,350
sheets, from four (4) sources.
Q2. Is the 7-MB standard memory shared between fax and network printing functions?
A2. No. The standard 7-MB (560-page*) memory supports fax functionality only. The fax
memory can be upgraded to 2,200 pages* via an optional 40-MB Flash Memory Card. The
optional Network Printer Interface comes standard with a 16-MB memory (upgradeable to
144-MB via optional 32-/64-/128MB DIMMs).
*Based on the ITU-T Test Document #1 in Standard resolution.
Q3. How many numbers can be manually dialed (using the numeric keypad), for instance,
during a broadcast to locations that are not stored in Quick Dial key(s) or Speed Dial
number(s)?
A3. When broadcasting “on the fly,” it is possible to manually enter (via the numeric keypad)
up to 100 numbers.
Q4. How does the Duplex Document Transmission feature work?
A4. This is a process whereby the user scans the first side of a duplex document into fax
memory, turns the document over, and scans the reverse side into memory. Prior to
transmission, the system automatically collates the document in memory. This saves the
user a tremendous amount of time by eliminating the need to first copy the document
onto single sheets before transmission
Q5. Previous Gestetner facsimile systems and MFPs had Reverse Order Printing.
Why doesn’t the Gestetner F104 Series have it?
A5. Some models produced the printed image face-up.
Therefore, Reverse Order Printing
would automatically collate the document in memory, allowing the system to print last-
page-first, i.e., in correct page sequence. The Gestetner F104/F104L prints face-down,
printing in correct page order as the document is received.
Q6. Is the optional 40-MB Flash Memory Card user-installable?
A6. The optional 40-MB Flash Memory Card is user installable. The memory card is simply
inserted into a slot on the left side of the Gestetner F104 or F104L.
Q7. What is Auto Document feature and why would someone use it?
A7. Auto Document feature allows you to store up to 90 frequently transmitted documents in
memory as a Quick Dial. It is used to keep documents like price lists, directions, and other
commonly faxed documents available for transmission – at the touch of a button.
